In the 1980s and 1990s, the air‑conditioning industry in China’s Taiwan region developed rapidly. By 1989, Taiwan of China had become the world’s third‑largest production base for air‑conditioners. As an essential component of air‑conditioners, compressors were in great shortage. At that time, compressor technologies were monopolized by major manufacturers from Europe, America and Japan. Air‑conditioning enterprises had to place orders in long queues for compressors, and even orders booked one year in advance could not guarantee supply.

In 1989, Mr. Liao Zhenan, President of our company, together with several like‑minded technical professionals with lofty career ideals who co‑founded “Hanbell”, gained in‑depth insights into the industry and conceived the idea of developing compressors independently owned by Chinese.

Subsequently, the boom of screw compressors sweeping across Chinese mainland finally convinced the core founding team. The management believed that global industrial transfer followed an inevitable rule: industries shifted from Europe and America to Japan, and the next destination would be Chinese mainland. “What Taiwan is experiencing in its development will also happen in mainland China. At that time, the mainland’s air‑conditioning industry was just in its infancy, and international giants had not yet made large‑scale inroads. This relatively untapped gap period offered a rare market entry opportunity. Early strategic layout would enable us to catch up with the coming industrial upsurge.”

Ideas must be translated into actions. Mr. Liao Zhenan conducted market investigations in mainland China. Listening to the clear and time‑honored bell tolls of Hanshan Temple, he suddenly saw the path forward. He resolved to build a national Chinese brand, enabling Chinese‑made compressors to spread and resound across the globe just like the bell of Hanshan Temple.

The practical entrepreneurial practice started in Taiwan of China. In 1994, Hanbell’s first compressor company was established in Taiwan of China. Two years later, targeting the mainland market, Mr. Liao Zhenan and the founding team set up an office in mainland China and launched the “Hanbell” compressor brand. Since then, our products have taken root worldwide and been widely applied in various industries as key general‑purpose electromechanical equipment.

After years of development, the company has integrated R&D, manufacturing, quality assurance, sales & service and energy management for compressors and pumps. It is gradually evolving into a system‑service operator, and has grown into one of the powerful compressor manufacturers in Chinese mainland.
